How do I connect to the Wi-Fi for the first time?

With the Member Area

  1. Connect to the Wi-Fi network named MiNET and enter the password minet123.
  2. If you are asked to choose a “Security” type, select “WPA2 Personal”.
  3. If you are asked to fill in an “Anonymous” field, leave it empty.
  4. If you are asked to select a “CA Certificate” or “Certificate”, choose “Use system certificates” or “Trust on first use”. Otherwise, select “Do not validate” or “None”.
  5. If you see an option such as “MAC Address Type”, “Private MAC Address”, or “Random MAC Address”, choose “Use the device’s MAC address” or disable the option if possible (on iPhone, this option is hidden under the Information button next to the Wi-Fi network name).
  6. If a “Domain” field appears, enter: “minet.net”.
  7. Connect to the network. You should then be redirected to the Member Area in your web browser.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the redirection does not work

  1. Temporarily connect to the Internet using another device that is already connected or by using a mobile hotspot.
  2. Go to the Member Area, add the MAC address of your first device (Need help finding your MAC address?), and generate a Wi-Fi password for that device.
  3. Reconnect your first device to the MiNET Wi-Fi network using the generated password, making sure that all the settings match those described in the first section.

If you experience issues with the Wi-Fi connection

If you are using Linux and previously configured the old MiNET connection method, or if your device is using the wrong Wi-Fi authentication method, refer to the Linux guide. Otherwise, submit a ticket on this website, providing all the required information and describing your issue as clearly as possible. If you are able to connect to the Wi-Fi but the signal is too weak, try using wired connection like Ethernet or visit us during office hours at the MiNET office in the student common room, Monday to Thursday, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
